ABOUT ISLAND LAKES!

 

Island Lakes is located in South East Winnipeg, at the corner of Bishop Grandin and Lagimodiere. It provides easy access to major crosstown routes and is only a few minutes from St. Vital Centre. This development began in 1985 when Novamet Development Corp. developed the 580-acre Island Lakes subdivision, which today has about 2,500 homes. 
The elementary school opened in the fall of 2001. Adjacent to the school is a 16-acre park with tennis courts, basketball hoops and baseball diamonds. The neighborhood's lakeside walkways have always been a popular feature for joggers, cyclists and strollers, and the lakes are always popular with canoeists. For lovers of nature and birdwatchers, the community has a five-acre natural grass area planted with native prairie species. Enjoy our parks with playground equipment, baseball diamonds and large green areas for fun.

MEET YOUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS!

The Island Lakes Residents' Group Board of Directors consists of many volunteer residents who are nominated and voted in by you!  The each hold a position for each area we focus on and advocate for our members.  Countless hours have been donated to this board over the past 30 years and we can't thank them enough for making our community as amazing as it is!

Lindsey Wilson Founder & Chair

 

Lindsey is a founding member of the ILRG.  He is a dedicated member of our community and the namesake of a beloved Island Lakes community park, Lindsey Wilson Park.

Rachel Moore Communications Director (Vice-Chair)

 

Rachel handles our group's communications.  She manages the website, Facebook page and group and is our correspondent for the Neighbours of Island Lakes magazine. 

Chantale Thurston Secretary

 

Chantale ensures the Island Lakes Residents' Group runs smoothly and efficiently, keeping our organization up to date.

Terry Bias Treasurer

Terry keeps the records and books of the group up to date and puts our very appreciated membership fees and business memeberships as well as donations under tight lock and key. 

Wayne Nyysola Special Events Director

Wayne is in charge of special community events. Securing sponsorship and executing the strategic plan for events such as our annual Family Fun Day and Winter Carnival. 

Wayne Lymburner Infrastructure Director

 

Wayne manages issues such as lighting, walkways, roads, and other matters pertaining to our infrastructure needs; dilligently alerting the city to issues.

Rae Wagner Parks and Recreation Director

 

Rae handles our neighbourhoods park issues such as advocating for better lighting, works with the city for our covered picnic shelters project and increasing our trees.

Helen Lymburner Adopt-A-Pot & Membership Coordinator ​

Helen handles all of the residential new memberships and renewals.  She coordinates the volunteer-planted flower pots which keep our Island Lakes looking beautiful. Helen can be found out and about on her bike (pot-mobile) checking on the progress of our neighbourhood's flowers.

Val Zurrin, Fundraising Director 

 

Val makes sure our local business remain involved and engaged in our neighbourhood. She is responsible for bringing new and existing businesses on board to support our community,
